Joseph T. Hochrein A.S.L.A.


Joe is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture and has been a practitioner for the past 27 years with projects in New England, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Florida, St. Louis, Colorado, Arizona and Las Vegas.

Joe is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects with professional registration in Massachusetts. He has an extensive land planning background having worked for the international firm of Design Workshop, Aspen, Co. in new town planning and ski resort development. He was the landscape architect for the architectural firm of Bill Poss & Associates, Aspen, Co. Prior to establishing his own firms, Joe was Director of Design for Matarazzo Design in Concord, NH For 12 years he was CO-owner of the design/build firm Landforms, LTD- responsible for: The Newbury Lakefront Park, Simon Center at New College, The Manchester V.A. Hospital Grounds Beautification Master Plan the New Hampshire Hospital Campus Master Plan, the Bancroft Academy refurbishing Rivier College Athletic Fields & School of Early Childhood Development Play site restoration of the ITT Corporate Golf Course Conference Center.

Today Joe has taken his past 12 years of construction knowledge and applied it to his new company. BlackWater Design Ltd. emphasizes innovative, one of a kind creations with specific attention on the use of site structures, color, movement, light, water and sound.

Joe resides with his wife Barbara and their three teenage daughters, in the rural woods of New Hampshire on the banks of the beautiful BlackWater River. He has taught as an adjunct teacher at the University of New Hampshire; chairman of the Webster Sports Committee; a trustee with the Webster Congregational Church; and an intramural soccer/basketball coach.
